ABSTRACT:
|
Continuing the research begun in 1999 by various members of the American Society for Cybernetics on the challenges of evil and ethics, this paper reflects upon the persistence of racism in American society, and the difficulties faced by both scholars and activists when reaching an understanding of the pervasiveness of what we term the lie of race. Cybernetic experiments in relaxing the Law of the Excluded Middle are presented as strategies for unearthing the social fixation with privilege. A discourse into "The Story," a fantasy created by the Society researchers addressing evil and ethics, is also presented with reflections on the paralysis the ensued when that work faced the true nature of evil.
