  WHO CAN JOIN THE ASC?

    In a word - Anyone!

Any individual, group or institution who subscribes to the purpose of the Society, demonstrates professional and scientific conduct, and pays the appropriate membership dues may become a member.

  WHO DOES JOIN THE ASC?

Cybernetics is a broad and multi-faceted topic. This breadth and diversity is reflected in our membership.

The ASC membership includes people who are students, academics, consultants, researchers, writers, artists, educators, and / or who pursue a variety of other vocations and avocations.

Our members' interests and specialties span a range of diverse fields and disciplines, reflecting the interdisciplinary and integrative character of both theory and praxis in cybernetics.

A typical ASC member has active interests in (e.g.) first and second order cybernetics, general systems thinking, and the application of these ideas in the many fields where they offer insights and practical guidance.

Some of our members are introduced at this Website's ASC Cyberneticians Page.

WHAT CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP DOES THE ASC OFFER?

The ASC Constitution provides for 3 grades of membership: Associate, Member and Fellow (see article 4 of the ASC Constitution ).

Effective with the 2007 membership year, the Executive Board have decided it is time to implement the grade of Fellow.

We have also established criteria for Emeritus membership for members of long standing, generally retired. The titles "Emeritus Member" and "Emeritus Fellow" will simply be used to formalize a practice that has been informally practiced over the years.

Invitations for nominations for Fellowship are invited: see the Nominations Page for details on the nomination procedure. Self-nominations may be considered.

The tables below illustrate the current membership structure for ASC effective with the 2007 membership year.
