  The CYBCOM ListServ

The CYBCOM ListServ was the original online discussion forum established under the aegis of the American Society for Cybernetics.

It remains the largest and most active discussion forum specifically dedicated to cybernetics and related topics. It is a 'Listserv' - i.e., all transactions and traffic are conducted via email.

To join this listserve, send an email to listserv@hermes.circ.gwu.edu with the message "sub cybcom YOURNAME".

An archive of prior list messages can be found at:

  USENET Newsgroups

USENET newsgroups are the original Internet discussion forums.

There are a number of these newsgroups dedicated to cybernetics or closely related subjects. In addition, there are a few newsgroups within which discussion of cybernetics and systemics are relatively common.

The most relevant USENET newsgroups are listed below, hot-linked to afford you direct access via Google Groups:

  Discussion Forums at Yahoo Groups

The popular Internet portal Yahoo operates a service named Yahoo Groups, which provides a framework for establishing email-based discussion forums analogous to the older USENET newsgroups.

Some of the Yahoo Groups are dedicated to cybernetics or closely related subjects - particularly those groups of the venerable DialogNet network which have been migrated to Yahoo Groups.

The most relevant Yahoo Groups are listed below, hot-linked to afford you direct access:

Autopoiesis DialogNet

A forum on autopoiesis and the biology of cognition (the work of Maturana and Varela).

Emergence DialogNet

A forum on the phenomenon of 'emergence', where systems theory and cybernetics are often mentioned.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/emergence-dialognet/

Complexity DialogNet

A forum addressing the topics of 'complexity' and complexity theory.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/complexity-dialognet/

Systems-Thought-DialogNet

A forum dedicated to systems thought / systems thinking.

  Discussion Forums on Sociocybernetics

Sociocyberforum

"This website has emerged from the relatively successful mailing list (Jottings on Luhmann) which began early in 1998 with Jesper Tøkke (Denmark), F.D. Bunsen (Germany) and several Board members from the working group on Sociocybernetics, now known as RC51. The group was originally hosted by LISTBOT then transferred to the present host, eGroups at Yahoo! The original intent was to collaborate on papers in progress concerning Niklas Luhmann and his theoretical work. ... The focus expanded to include other sociocybernetics and social systems approaches. ... Postings are encouraged on how to collaborate and work together to develop awareness of sociocybernetics."

Another Sociocybernetics Forum
